Your mitral valve is utterly important

Posted on June 27, 2013

The left Atrium is the collection chamber for all oxygenated blood, coming back from the lungs.  Trough the widely open mitral valve it then flows to the left ventricle. It is the most powerful muscle that pumps the blood trough the open aortic valve towards the aorta from where it will irrigate the entire body.

Some parts of your valve may fail

Posted on June 27, 2013

Some diseases will affect the normal function of the mitral valve. Rheumatic fever will stiffen the leaflets, sometimes all the way to ‘calcification’, degenerative disease usually will cause failure of the support of the leaflets and cause them to ‘prolapse’ with a regurgitation of blood to the lungs as a result.

Your valve can always be repaired endoscopically!

No Scar, No Pain, Fast Rehabilitation!
In many, if not all instances the mitral valve can be surgically repaired to restore its function. A repair is always better for the patient on the long term then a replacement as every prosthesis for the mitral valve has significant drawbacks. A repair can be carried out perfectly in a non-invasive way.

Policlinico di Monza

Prof Vanermen joined the Policlinico di Monza in Italy to start minimal invasive interventions of the mitral valve.
